Madison County, Ill (KSDK) -- A Granite City woman is suspected of commiting three crimes using a toy gun in one day.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office said Amy Zielinski, 34, was charged with armed robbery and two counts of attempted aggravated robbery.
The sheriff's office said a woman with a gun robbed the BP Amoco at 1301 E. Chain of Rocks Road in Pontoon Beach on December 1. She left the scene in a red car.
Fifteen minutes later, the sheriff's office said they received a report of a woman trying to rob someone selling pecans in front of Gene's Barber Shop on Lenox Avenue in Granite City. The woman grabbed her waistband acting like she had a weapon and demanded money. The victim gave the suspect her wallet, which was empty. The suspect gave it back and took off in a red car.
While the sheriff's office met with the second victim, they received a report of a crime at the 508 Variety Store in Granite City. The suspect went into the store and told the clerk to get her some cigarettes. She then lifted her shirt to display her waistband and told the clerk to give her all the money. The clerk told deputies he didn't see a weapon, but she acted like she had one. The woman didn't take any money.
A Pontoon Beach police officer spotted a vehicle that matched the suspect vehicle description on Illinois Route 111 in Pontoon Beach around 4 p.m. that same day.
Investigators found the toy gun in the vehicle and said Zielinski was arrested and taken to the Pontoon Beach Department Jail where she was held pending formal charges.
Zielinski's bond was set at $100,000.
