Stover, Mo. (KSDK) - Police in central Missouri have a double murder on their hands.

An elderly couple in the small town of Stover was found shot to death Tuesday.

Police say a neighbor discovered the bodies of 71-year-old Mabel Wells and her 82-year-old husband Wayne.

One of the doors of their home had been forced open.

People in the tight-knit community are shocked.

"It is the friendliest place at the lake and we don't need a mark like this. They were just such good people and I know her daughters will be just horrified," said an anonymous Stover resident.

Missouri officials say a large task force of more than 25 officers is searching for the killer.

Police believe the shootings took place Monday night.
