WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. (KSDK) - A St. Louis man is charged with first-degree child molestation in a case investigated by the Webster Groves Police Department.
Investigators said Ozee McCollum, 41, was served with warrants Tuesday. The alleged abuse happened several times at a private residence more than four years ago in Webster Groves.
The charges are the result of grand jury involvement, police said.
The victim in this case is an adult now, but police said she was a minor when the alleged abuse happened.
Counselors at the Crime Victim Advocacy Center said it's not unusual for long periods of time to pass between the alleged commission of such abuse and the victim reporting it.
"When you're dealing with cases of physical or sexual abuse there's often a grooming process the perpetrator will do with the victim," said Jessica Meyers, a counselor at Crime Victim Advocacy Center. "And part of that is isolating them from their social network, their parents, their family, and grooming them to believe that either no one is going to believe them when they come forward or that they somehow deserve what's happening to them."
Bond for McCollum is set at $75,000.
