Attempted abduction in Lake Saint Louis

LAKE SAINT LOUIS, Mo - Police are looking for a masked man who they believe tried to abduct a young girl from the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lake Saint Louis.

A group of kids were playing outside the church Wednesday night when the man approached a 9-year-old girl and offered her money to leave with him.

Barbi Glasgow is raising a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy right across the street from the church where the abduction attempt happened. On Thursday the kids were playing outside, enjoying the nice weather. But Glasgow says things around her house are about to change.

"They're gonna have to stay in the yard now," said Glasgow. "They're not going to be allowed to be out with the mobs of children that are in this neighborhood."

Bishop Kirk Remund says the girl was approached after youth night activities. Now he's working with other church leaders on a way to keep it from happening again.

"These children are so important to us, they're precious. We want to do everything we can to help families protect their children," said Remund.

Lake Saint Louis police Chief Mike Force says right now his officers don't have any leads in this case and there were no other witnesses. But they do believe the little girl's story is credible.

"We look for consistency in the story and the little girl was very consistent in her story throughout the process," said Force.

Chief Force says this is a good reminder for all parents to teach your kids how to handle situations like this. Something Barbi Glasgow says is easy to do.

"We have a lot of books on the subject so we've done stranger danger and tell a grownup," she said.

There are no security cameras here at the church so there are no pictures of the man. But police believe he's about six feet tall. Investigators don't have much else to go on because he was wearing a ski mask when he approached the girl. They also think he was on foot.

Anyone with information on this case should call Lake St. Louis police.
