Belleville man accused of stealing cigarettes for 27 months

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – A 36-year-old Belleville man is accused of stealing from a convenience store over 27 months.

Deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department were called to the Circle K convenience store in the 5900 block of Old St. Louis Road Monday for a report of a retail theft. Store officials originally thought an employee was behind the thefts, but surveillance recordings showed a man driving a red Chevrolet Cobalt was the suspect.

After an investigation, St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly charged Ronald Adams with retail theft, for allegedly stealing cigarettes.

Adams had a prior conviction for retail theft. His bond is set at $50,000.
