Charges filed for Wentzville standoff

WENTZVILLE, Mo. – A man accused of starting a standoff with police Wednesday night in Wentzville has been charged.

Maj. Paul West with the Wentzville Police Department says officers were called to the 1200 block of Peruque Ridge Drive at 10:23 p.m. for a report of shots fired. The caller said the person inside the home in question was shooting a shotgun, and pellets were falling into his house.

When police arrived they heard shots. Officers called the St. Charles County Regional SWAT team, and crisis negotiators for backup in an attempt to make contact with the homeowner, identified as 39-year-old Jason Marschuetz.

West says officers heard several more shots being fired, and that at one point Marschuetz shot a truck occupied by SWAT team members.

Marschuetz surrendered after several hours. He's charged with first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of second-degree property damage.

Bond is set at $200,000 cash-only.
