Christian County shooting injures officer, kills 1

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ill. – Authorities are investigating a shooting that left a person dead and an officer wounded, according to Illinois State Police.

Multiple police agencies responded to an incident in the area of the 1400 block of East and 350 North, which is west of Pana, Ill.

A Pana officer found an armed person in a home and was shot by the person soon after.

The man then fled to the roof of the home. Authorities attempted negotiations, but the incident ended in gunfire with Illinois State Police SWAT, and the armed person was shot. The Christian County Coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The wounded officer remains in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

The identity of the man has not yet been released, and police continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
