Man charged in connection with homicide at Days Inn

Hazelwood Police are investigating a homicide at the Days Inn on North Hanely.

HAZELWOOD, Mo. – The Hazelwood Police Department has a suspect in custody in connection with a homicide that took place at the Days Inn on North Hanley early Tuesday morning.

According to police, 23-year-old Jessica N. Champion, of St. Peters, was found shot in a hotel room on the 7300 block of North Hanley around 12:40 a.m. The Hazelwood Fire Department and Ambulance attempted to render lifesaving efforts and transported her to the hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.

Hazelwood Police arrested Blake Edgar, 25, Tuesday afternoon. He was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action. He is being held on on a $250,000, cash-only bond.

Edgar has a criminal history that includes prior convictions of burglary and stealing. He has admitted to being a drug user.
