Hit-and-run suspect surrenders

ST. LOUIS – An arrest has been made one week after a bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run.

Schron Jackson, a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, says a 27-year-old man surrendered to detectives Friday for the accident that killed 54-year-old Charles Beard of Clayton June 20 at the intersection of Sarah and Cook.

Beard was riding his bicycle north on Sarah when he was hit by a 2006 black and maroon Pontiac Grand Prix. The driver of the vehicle sped away, and Beard was pronounced dead at the scene.

The following day the suspect's vehicle was recovered in the 4700 block of Kensington.

The suspect's name will be released if charges are filed.
