'I-55 Bandit' receives 5 years in prison

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – The "I-55 Bandit" has been sentenced for a string of bank robberies in 2013, inlcudig the Commerce Bank in Jefferson County Friday, according to the U.S. Attorney's office of Eastern District Missouri.

Andrew Maberry, of O'Fallon, Ill., received 60 months in prison for the charges.

According to court documents, Maberry robbed 10 banks in five states, including Missouri, Tennessee, Illinois, Maryland and West Virginia.

Maberry received the name I-55 Bandit from robbing banks in Missouri along Interstate 55, including in the St. Louis metropolitan area, Commerce Bank in Arnold, Mo., Scott Credit Union in Edwardsville, Ill., US Bank in Crystal City, Mo., and First State Community Bank in Cape Girardeau.

He pleaded guilty in December and previously surrendered in September.
