ST. LOUIS COUNTY - Jury selection started Monday in the trial of a man accused of shooting and paralyzing a Florissant police officer.

Brian Cannon is charged with burglary, assault, and armed criminal action. Authorities say Officer Mike Vernon was responding to a burglary when he found Cannon hiding in a shopper center in May 2012.

Vernon was shot three times and is now paralyzed. He is expected to testify.
