Man accused of Florissant bank robbery dies

FLORISSANT, Mo. (KSDK) – A man accused of robbing a bank in Florissant Wednesday and later shooting himself in the head has died, according to Florissant police.

Tye Kaufman, 25, died Thursday morning, according to police. He had no prior criminal record.

According to police, the robbery occurred just before 10:20 a.m. at the US Bank in the 2200 block of N. Lindbergh Boulevard Wednesday. No one was injured in the robbery.

A bank teller provided police with a description of the suspect and his getaway vehicle. Officers located the vehicle traveling south on Lindbergh and gave chase.

The suspect crashed into the Taylor Street Bridge, just north of Interstate 270 in Hazelwood. The southbound lanes of Lindbergh were closed as a result.

As officers approached the vehicle, the man in the car shot himself in the head.

Police said he acted alone in the robbery.
