Man accused of impersonating Rolla police officer

ROLLA, Mo. – Rolla police are asking for help identifying a man accused of imitating a law enforcement official.

A woman called police around 4:40 p.m. Friday to report the incident, which happened in the 600 block of Woodland Drive.

Chief Mark A. Kearse says the woman came home to find a man in her backyard. When she made contact with him, he told her he was a Rolla police officer, and demanded to be let inside her home. When the woman asked to see his badge, the man ran to a newer-model grey SUV and drove away.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man in his early to mid-20s. He has dark hair and was last seen wearing a dark jacket.

A witness to the incident was able to snap a photograph of the suspect during the incident. Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call Det. Sgt. Hank Harper at 573-308-1213 or the confidential tip line at 573-364-0111.
