Man arrested, charged for striking mother

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Madison County State's Attorney's Office charged a 26-year-old Troy, Illinois man for allegedly striking his own mother and getting into a fight with his stepfather.

According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred early Sunday morning around 5:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of Maryville Road in rural Granite City.

When deputies arrived on scene they encountered the victim in the driveway, who told them her son, identified as Curt Haeffner, was inside fighting with her husband.

Haeffner's mother informed deputies that the Pontoon Beach Police Department contacted her at 5 a.m. to report her son was asleep on a stranger's porch. Haeffner's mother and stepfather drove to the residence and picked him up.

Haeffner appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and looked like he'd been in a fight, according to his mother. Police released Haeffner into his mother's custody.

On the drive home, Haeffner began arguing with his mother and stepfather. When they got back home, Haeffner is said to have punched his mother in the face and attempted to strike her husband.

Haeffner was taken into custody at the scene, the sheriff's office said. While being placed in a police vehicle, he physically resisted arrest and spit in a deputy's face.
