Man banned from Walmart accused of stealing car batteries

MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – A Bethalto, Ill. man is accused of stealing from Walmart.

Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff's Office were called to the Walmart on Godfrey Road shortly after 4:40 p.m. for a report of retail theft.

A lost prevention officer told deputies the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Graham J. Ladd, stole four car batteries valued at $439.88 from the store. The officer said Ladd pushed a cart containing the batteries out of the store, loaded them into a pickup truck, and left the area.

The loss prevention officer also accused Ladd of stealing four car batteries the day before. He had been banned from Walmart property for his involvement in a theft from the Wood River store.

Ladd's vehicle was stopped a short time later on Pardee Lane in Godfrey. The batteries were recovered from the bed of the truck.

Ladd is charged with retail theft and criminal trespass to property. His bond is set at $20,000.
