Man charged for north STL murder

ST. LOUIS – A man was shot to death Monday night and found in the grass along the side of the road.

The shooting happened at 9:05 p.m. near Riverview Boulevard and Spring Garden Drive in north St. Louis. When officers arrived at the scene they found the victim in the grass with a gunshot wound to his head. He has been identified as 28-year-old Corwin Bates.

Bates' 40-year-old cousin, Germone Cunningham, was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon. Authorities believe Bates and Cunningham were attempting a robbery when they say Bates was shot by the robbery victim.

Cunningham is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
