Man charged with robbery of convenience store

ALTON, ILL. - A man is in custody and facing charges just one day after police said he robbed a convenience store in Alton, Illinois.

According to a press release from the Alton Police Department, Robert Profer of Wood River, Illinois, robbed the Hit N Run store on the 1800 block of Washington Avenue at around 11:25 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said he implied he had a weapon and made off with an undisclosed amount of money, but didn't hurt anyone. Officers did not find Profer during the initial search, but after looking at the security footage, an officer recognized him as a man he was in contact with earlier in the day.

Madison County Sheriff's Deputies tracked him down and took him into custody Thursday. He is facing one count of aggravated robbery and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
