Man gets prison time for weapons charge

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. - A Marion, Illinois man is heading to jail for nearly six years for felony firearm possession.

Sherman Allen Jr., a.k.a "Larue," pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He was sentenced to 71 months in prison. After serving his jail sentence he will be on probation for three years and fined $200.

Allen, 29, was arrested July 29, 2013 at his home. After searching the home, agents located a Lorcin .25 caliber pistol, along with scales, drug packing materials, and other evidence of drug distribution.

Court documents state Allen was previously convicted for a felony, which made possession of a firearm illegal.
