Man sentenced to probation for health care fraud

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – A Washington Park, Ill. man has been sentenced for a Medicaid abuse scheme.

Former Washington Park trustee and St. Clair County probation officer, 39-year-old Darron A. Suggs, was sentenced to five years of probation Tuesday and ordered to pay $64,867 in restitution to the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Suggs is one of 15 people who were charged in 12 indictments in July 2013. According to court documents, Suggs admitted to submitting false and fraudulent bills related to his performance of personal assistant services in the Home Services Program, which is a Medicaid Waiver Program which allows participants to stay at home.

Officials say Suggs falsely billed the program $64,967 between June 30, 2006 and April 16, 2013.
