Man who robbed bank in fake beard arrested after jumping from Blanchette Bridge

Police and firefighters in boats took a bank robbery suspect into custody after he jumped into the Missouri River from the Blanchette Bridge to escape police.

St. Peters police said they identified the suspect and went to his house at around 5:45. The suspect got into his car and drove off. While being chased by police, he stopped his car on the bridge and jumped into the river several stories below.

About 30 or 45 minutes and three miles later, he was taken into custody.

Police were looking for him after a Monday morning robbery in St. Peters.

At around 10:30, the man entered the Gateway Metro Federal Credit Union on the 1400 block of Jungermann Road wearing a fake beard. Armed with a semi-automatic handgun, he demanded money from employees, a press release from the St. Peters Police Department said.

The employees handed over some money and the man ran behind a business across the street. Witnesses told police they saw a maroon Pontiac G6 speed off northbound on Triad Center Drive.

He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No one else was hurt.
