Men accused of carjacking, shooting at officers

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – Three Illinois men are accused of aggravated vehicular hijacking.

Deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department were called to the Parkfield Terrace subdivision shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 for a report of a carjacking.

The vehicle was spotted along Ill. Route 157 in Centreville. When deputies tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to comply.

Deputies say the driver turned onto Tuskegee Drive, and then into a field. The driver's side door then opened, and the driver fired a handgun in the direction of the deputies. Two suspects then got out of the vehicle and started to run.

The deputies returned gunfire, and the suspects, identified as 24-year-old Derrick D. Garner of Cahokia, 23-year-old Anthony D. Garner of Fairview Heights, and 27-year-old Brian J. Wood of Cahokia, were taken into custody.

Derrick Garner is charged with six counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, two counts of unlawful possession of firearm ammunition by a felon, and obstruction of justice. His bond is set at $500,000.

Anthony Garner is charged with obstruction of justice and held on a $200,000 bond.

Wood is charged with disorderly conduct and held on a $100,000 bond.

All three suspects are held at the St. Clair County Jail.

A fourth suspect is in custody but has not been charged.
