Missouri couple's death ruled murder-suicide

NEOSHO, Mo. (AP) - Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland says the deaths of a couple apparently were a murder-suicide.

The bodies of Edwin and Ann Kelley were found Thursday along a county road south of Neosho. Copeland says both had gunshot wounds and a gun was recovered beneath the woman's body.

Two cars were found near the scene. Copeland says it appears the couple both stopped along the side of the road and had some type of confrontation.

The Joplin Globe reports Newton County Circuit Court records show Ann Kelley filed for a protection order and a divorce in December. The divorce case was dismissed April 17 but a motion to end the protection order was denied by the court.

Edwin Kelley had twice filed for divorce but each case was dismissed.
