Officer on leave after South City shooting

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Police have arrested and charged a teen and put an officer on administrative leave related to a shooting that injured a man in the 6700 block of Vermont.

According to police, officers responded to a call for possible drug sale occurring in the same area from a blue Dodge Neon.

Officers found a car matching the description, and an 18-year-old fled on foot from the scene carrying a gun, according to police. The teen then turned with weapon aimed at them, but one officer fired their department-issued weapon upon seeing his gun.

The teen was shot in the leg and ran into a home in the area. He was later arrested and taken to an area hospital. He is listed in stable condition.

Thursday, the Circuit Attorney charged Tyre Boyce, 18, with unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held on $30,000 cash-only bond.

The officer who fired has been placed on administrative leave while the case remains under investigation, which is part of department policy.
