Person injured in officer-involved shooting in East St. Louis

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KSDK) – One person is being treated for injuries following an officer-involved shooting in East St. Louis early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to a burglary at a convenient store at 37th Street and St. Clair Avenue around 4:30 a.m. after an alarm went off.

According to Illinois State Police, a Washington Park officer found someone in the store and an altercation broke out.

Officer fired and hit the burglar who then ran out of the building and collapsed.

The officer wasn't injured.

The man who was shot was taken to an area hospital where his condition remains unknown.

East St. Louis, Washington Park and Illinois State Police are investigating the scene.
