Police: 1-year-old's death ruled a homicide

ST. LOUIS - The mother and stepfather are in police custody in connection with the death of one-year old Jabria Phillips. Warrants are pending.

The death of the toddler overnight has been ruled a homicide, according to St. Louis police.

According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 1400 block of Rowan Avenue in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood around 3:35 a.m. They found one-year old Jabria Phillips, and she was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An early afternoon autopsy showed the child died from blunt force trauma.

Homicide and child abuse detectives continue to investigate the case.
