Police asking neighbors to stay alert after attempted abduction in St. Ann

Letters were sent home to families.

Police in St. Ann are asking neighbors to keep an eye on the street when students are coming from and going to school after an attempted abduction of a student Thursday morning.

According to a post on the St. Ann Neighborhood watch Facebook page, a young girl was approached by a man in a grey sedan Thursday morning on her way to Hoech Middle School. He offered her candy, but she ran away to her grandmother's house.

The school's resource officer met the girl at her grandmother's house, where she described the incident. When the girl decided she was ready to go to school, the officer drove her there and made sure she was safe.

School officials sent home letters to parents, notifying them of the situation, the Facebook post said.

Police said they are hopeful this is an isolated incident, but they are asking neighbors to keep an eye on the street for anything unusual.
