Police: Man murdered in south city store

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting in south city, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said Sunday.

According to police spokeswoman Leah Freeman, the shooting happened inside a small grocery store in the 3400 block of Chippewa. Police on scene said they received the call around 3:30 p.m.

Police said the victim, a man in his 30s to 40s, was found shot in the head inside the store. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Freeman said a suspect returned to the scene of the crime and was taken into custody.

Regina Moore told NewsChannel 5 she was on her way to the store when the shooting happened. She said she knows the family who owns the store.

Moore said they are quick to help others in the community.

"They are sweet and loving people," she said. "If you don't have it, they don't mind you bringing back the money or anything like that."

Police did not reveal whether the man worked at the store or not.
