Rape suspect apprehended in south St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – Police say a man is in custody, accused of attempting to rape a 23-year-old woman Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the 3900 block of Pennsylvania around 9:19 a.m. for an attempted rape. The victim told police she was walking to her home when a man she did not know came up to her, knocked her to the ground, and tried to take off her pants.

The victim says she yelled and the man ran away.

Leah K. Freeman, a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, says a 48-year-old man was taken into custody in the 3900 block of Minnesota. They believe he is also responsible for a a rape in the 3900 block of Keokuk around 7:25 a.m. Tuesday.

The man's name has not been released.
