Registered sex offender accused of violating statutes

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) – A registered sex offender has been arrested and charged for violating registration statutes, according to Phelps County Sheriff Richard Lisenbe.

Lawrence Storey, 44, faces charges of failing to register as a sex offender and residing within 1,000 feet of a daycare or school.

A brief investigation found that Storey had moved from his home in Crawford County to Phelps County and didn't report the change of address, Lisenbe said. In addition, his home was within 1,000 feet of two daycare centers.

Storey was previously convicted in 1998 for first-degree sodomy of an 11-year-old girl in Crawford County.

In 2010, Storey failed to register as a sex offender, Lisenbe said.

Storey is currently being held in Phelps County Jail on $50,000 bond.
