Report: Body of missing 10-year-old girl found, suspect charged

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KSDK) – The body of 10-year-old Hailey Owens, who had been missing since Tuesday evening, has been found, according to KY3 in Springfield, Mo.

Craig Michael Wood, 45, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. He was arrested before midnight Tuesday in Owens' abduction.

Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams said authorities confirmed they found a body just 15 minutes before an 11 a.m. news conference. While the body has not been positively identified as Hailey Owens, Chief Williams said investigators have a "high degree of confidence."

There was no known connection between Owens and Wood, Chief Williams said.

According to the Springfield News-Leader, Owens was abducted a couple of blocks from her home in the 3300 block of West Page Street.

A witness told the News-Leader he saw the man luring Hailey to his pickup and pulling her in.

A statewide Amber Alert was issued at 7:07 p.m. Tuesday.
