Retired police officer helps woman escape alleged kidnapper

UNION, MO. - A retired police officer used his car to help keep a woman safe from her boyfriend who she said kidnapped her and hit her in the face.

According to a charging documents from the Union Police Department, a retired police officer maneuvered his car in front of the suspect's car to keep him from running the woman over in a QuikTrip parking lot in Union, Missouri.

The woman told police her boyfriend — 36-year-old Shane Story of Dupo, Illinois — kidnapped her, cut her hand and hit her in the face before saying he was going to run her over with his car.

With the help of the retired officer, she was able to get away and hide in the bathroom of the QuikTrip late Monday morning while Story fled on Highway 50. He was caught about 20 minutes later In Gerald, Missouri, and is now in custody.

Story is facing counts of domestic assault and felonious restraint. He is being held on $50,000 bond.

The charging documents also said he has pending domestic assault warrants in Illinois.
