School bus involved in hit-and-run

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – Fairview Heights police are investigating a hit-and-run accident involving a school bus Friday morning.

Police were called to Union Hill Road, just south of Knob Hill, shortly after 8:30 a.m. when a passenger car hit a school bus.

Callers to 911 said two people inside the passenger car ran from the scene toward Carbon Street and said they were driving erratically before the accident. Witnesses told officers they saw the suspects get into a vehicle driven by another person and were transported from the area.

Police say they were able to use evidence from the crime scene to identify both suspects, but they are not yet in custody.

There were no students on the school bus at the time of the accident. The driver was not injured.

The bus sustained extensive damage to the rear driver's side.
