ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – St. Louis County police shot and killed a suspect after an alleged carjacking and police chase and at least two suspects remain on the run.
St. Louis County Police said it started with a carjacking early Monday morning in the Affton area. They said the suspects were armed and wearing masks.
Officers spotted the car in the Jennings area Monday evening, but the suspects took off. Police gave chase. The suspects got out of the car in the 4100 block of East Lee Avenue near Fairground Park in North St. Louis.
One of the suspects allegedly was armed and pointed a gun at an officer. The officer fired shots, hitting and killing the man. Police are now looking for the driver and one or two passengers.
"The officer, fortunately, is not injured. The other suspects fled from the vehicle, from the stolen vehicle from the carjacking in St. Louis County,” said St. Louis Metropolitan Police Capt. Mary Warnecke. “We ask anyone with information to call the homicide division with the St. Louis Police Department or the Crimestoppers."
Police said the suspect didn’t fire any shots and they have recovered a gun.
The man shot and killed by police was 19-year-old Aaron Ballard of St. Louis. He was charged in June with six counts including unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon in Callaway County, Missouri. He posted bond four days later, and was due in court in early November.
During the pursuit of the stolen car, two officers riding in the same police cruiser got into a crash with a 2007 Chrysler 300 at around 10:25. The crash happened at the intersection of Lillian Avenue and Union Boulevard. The two officers and the two passengers of the civilian car were taken to the hospital were they were treated for their injuries.
