St. Charles man pleads guilty to stealing federal money

ST. LOUIS - A 53-year-old St. Charles man pleaded guilty to stealing more than $150,000 in government funds over an eight year period, U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan said Wednesday.

According to court documents, William Naes ran a tax preparation business between 2005 and 2013. Naes admitted that he omitted work and income from documents he filed with the Social Security Administration in connection with his disability status.

Federal prosecutors said Naes received $150,480 in improper funds as a result of his actions.

William Naes faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for his crime when he's sentenced on April 24.
