St. Charles police shoot, kill man

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – One man is dead after he was shot by St. Charles police Wednesday night.

Officers were called to Clark Court, near St. Charles High School, around 9 p.m. for a domestic disturbance.

Neighbors said Martin G. Brown, 52, was threatening them and igniting fireworks, which led to a fire. Brown, armed with weapons, failed to comply with officers' instructions to disarm.

Brown allegedly repeated his threats to officers and approached them. One of the officers attempted to Taser Brown, but it was ineffective. One officer, fearing for his safety, fired at him. Brown was taken to a nearby hospital but died a short time later.

Nobody else was injured.

The officer who fired the shots is a 13-year veteran; he's been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
