Woman faces heroin charges after traffic stop

MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – A Moro, Ill. woman is facing heroin charges after a traffic stop.

Cathy A. Sewell, 35, is charged with possession of a controlled substance (heroin and clonazepam).

A spokesperson for the Madison County Sheriff's Office says a deputy stopped Sewell for a traffic offense around 12:27 p.m. Tuesday as she was driving along IL State Route 140 near S. Moreland Road in Bethalto.

When the deputy searched Sewell's vehicle, he found two clonazepam tablets and a safety cap for the top of a syringe. A more thorough search uncovered three syringes and a spoon with heroin residue.

Sewell is held at the Madison County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
