Demolition begins Wednesday at site of Soulard explosion

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – The business hit with a gas explosion in the Soulard neighborhood earlier this month will be demolished on Wednesday, city officials confirm.

The building ignited after AT&T subcontractors struck a gas line. The building – Stars Design Group – starting filling up with gas, and it was evacuated just seconds before a second large explosion.

Nobody was injured, but the building was a total loss.

City of St. Louis Spokesperson Maggie Crane said in an email that authorities will be asking the subcontractor involved to pay for the emergency response prompted by the explosion.

No additional information was immediately available.
