Normandy, MO (KSDK) - It's a first of its kind plan for Normandy, Missouri. A group is working to boost the area around the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus.

The public will get its first look at the plans Tuesday.

The plans include a hotel, which would be a first for the city of Normandy.

Near the MetroLink station at the south end of the UMSL campus, officials are making plans for a retail district. There are renderings that are similar to the ideas that the Urban Land Institute and UMSL will present to the public next week. The plan would include jogging paths, artwork and more.

"We've talked about hotels, we've talked about housing. We've talked about retail shops. We've talked about restaurants; amenities that will serve our daytime population and the surrounding community," said UMSL spokesperson Betty van Umm.

The area would be similar to St. Louis University. That school has two hotels and is surrounded by a retail area and is right next door to the Grand Center Arts District.

UMSL says this would be a partnership which would include MetroLink and the City of Normandy. In fact, the mayor says this is just what Normandy needs.

The public panel will be held on Tuesday, April 17th at 8:30 a.m. at the University's Millennium Student Center.
