Few area school districts prepare to open their doors

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – Most kids got to sleep in another day Wednesday morning as a number of districts canceled school, but some are back in session.

Webster Groves, Kirkwood, and Clayton are among the districts that have class.

A Webster Groves School District spokesperson says the superintendent makes the decision based on things such as the weather report, talking with other local superintendents, as well as the maintenance department.

Unlike districts farther west, the district spokesperson says, they don't run a lot of buses. They have three buses within the district.

We asked viewers on our Facebook page what they thought about the decision, that some districts made, to have school Wednesday.

Laurie Fields wrote, "Although I don't want my children going to school all summer because of all the snow days being used, I prefer them safe."

Victoria McNamee said, "I'm glad the children are home again. There is no place for the children to stand while waiting for the bus. The roads are still too bad for the buses! We need to make sure our children are safe!"

Sarah Napoli said, "East Alton roads are still not clear. Side walks are covered. Not bothering me to have my child home till it gets better. Some kids have to walk."
