SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Former TV game show host Bob Barker has donated $1 million to Drury University to establish a professorship on animal rights.
Barker, a longtime advocate for animals, made the donation to his alma mater Tuesday. The donation comes 20 months after the former host of "The Price is Right" gave another $1 million to establish the Drury University Forum on Animal Rights. That donation led to an undergraduate course on animal ethics.
The new professorship went to Patricia McEachern, a French professor who will now work full time to develop the nation's first undergraduate program in animal rights.
Barker, who was in Springfield to announce the donation, says he wants the latest donation to eventually lead to an undergraduate degree program that would teach students to respect animals and train future animal rights activists.
