Eureka firefighter killed in car crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) – A 27-year veteran of the Eureka Fire Protection District was killed in a car accident Friday night near Pacific.

Gregory Light, 49, leaves behind a wife, a son (who is also a Eureka firefighter) and a daughter.

Light – who was off-duty at the time of the crash -- was driving westbound on Route O when a car in the eastbound lanes tried to pass another vehicle, hitting Light's car head-on. Light was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

An 11-year-old passenger in the other car was seriously injured, and Light was pronounced dead on the scene. A spokesman for the Missouri Highway Patrol says there is no indication that the crash involves drunk driving, but an investigation is ongoing.

No additional information was immediately available.
