Fairview Heights clerk accused of stealing money

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - The clerk of Fairview Heights is accused of stealing more than $10,000 in impound fees from the southwestern Illinois city.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that prosecutors in St. Clair County have charged 43-year-old Patricia Ostendorf of New Athens with theft and official misconduct.

The criminal complaint alleges that Ostendorf stole the money from May 2012 through last June 27.

Ostendorf's bail was set at $30,000.

A person who answered the telephone at Ostendorf's home on Monday referred The Associated Press to her Belleville attorney, Jim Gomric.

A message seeking comment was left at his office but not immediately returned.
