Fallen Chesterfield officers honored in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KSDK) – Two fallen Chesterfield police officers were honored Saturday morning at the Law Enforcement Memorial on the grounds of the Missouri State Capitol.

The names of Chesterfield Police Officers Christopher Simpson and Joseph Smith, who both died in 2013, were added to the memorial, which overlooks the Missouri River.

Simpson died after a medical emergency at the Chesterfield Police Fitness Center on Feb. 12, 2013. He was a 35-year law enforcement veteran – and spent 25 of those years with Chesterfield Police.

Smith died on March 13, 2013. The 31-year law enforcement veteran died at home shortly after finishing his shift with the Chesterfield Police Department. He spent 17 years in Chesterfield.

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster was among the speakers at the memorial service.
