Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is speaking out against re-edited mashups of show clips that popped up Tuesday on YouTube, suggesting the cartoon predicted Monday's Boston Marathon bombing.
One clip from the Fox animated comedy contains a Boston Marathon reference followed by a bombing joke, making it seem like the two were related. Both clips were part of a March episode, "Turban Cowboy," but they were not connected to each other in the episode.
In the episode, central character Peter Griffin inadvertently becomes involved with terrorists. The unrelated marathon reference in the episode includes a flashback picture that shows Peter winning the race after running over competitors with his car.
"The edited Family Guy clip currently circulating is abhorrent. The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims," MacFarlane said today via Twitter.
Guy frequently features random, unrelated jokes.
Fox has removed the episode from Fox.com and Hulu.com and has no immediate plans to broadcast it again.
