Harley-Davidson marks its 110th anniversary in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (WTMJ) - You don't have to attend the big bash in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to hear the big roar of Harley-Davidson engines. With tens of thousands of motorcycles expected to roll through town, that roar will reverberate across the entire city.

But getting too close can be a little dangerous.

"They compare to that of 18-wheelers, and some are even louder," explains Dr. Stacy Ryan, an audiologist at UW Milwaukee. "It's dangerously loud even under 30 seconds of exposure. Riders should consider wearing ear protection."

Ryan brought along her decibel meter to the party, and measured one Harley's levels at more than 120 decibels - the same rate as a jackhammer.
