ST. LOUIS - Diabetes can be a deadly disease, but if caught early enough, it can often be prevented.
Around half a million St. Louisans are currently living with pre-diabetes, and to help them live alive and well, several YMCAs in our area are now offering a diabetes prevention class.
Those who realize they're pre-disposed to the disease can attend one year of meetings as part of the Diabetes Prevention Program.
There is a fee for the program, but the YMCA will only release the cost to people who call and inquire about participating. Those who enroll also get a free three-month membership to the "Y."
Sometimes the cost of the classes is covered by health insurance.
