St. Charles County, MO (KSDK) - Allergy sufferers sometimes have to deal with the hassle of getting pseudoephedrine to help treat symptoms.

Soon, St. Charles County residents will be able to buy one without a prescription.

Releva is a new version of pseudoephedrine that makers say can't be broken down to meth.

St. Charles County voted to allow the product to be sold over-the-counter once it hits the market later this summer.

It's manufactured by a St. Louis company, Highland Pharmaceuticals.

Local pharmacists are interested to see how well the new formula will work.

Highland Pharmaceuticals is hoping to get a special exemption from the DEA to be able to sell Releva over the counter in every state.
