St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - With 23 heat-related deaths in St. Louis and another heat wave to come, the city's health director says we're in a crisis situation.
This Sunday, local ministers will be passing out flyers filled with information about where to get help during these hot days.
CoolDown St. Louis, the Clergy Coalition, Ameren UE and others are urging St. Louis-area residents to step up their efforts to help their neighbors.
CoolDown's Rev. Earl Nance Jr. says he's very concerned about elderly and/or disabled residents, people who might forget to turn on their air conditioner or may not turn it on to avoid running up their electric bill.
With more heat to come, officials and civic leaders fear there may be more deaths as well.
If you're checking on your neighbors once or twice a day, this group says check on them twice as much to make sure their air conditioners are working or that they can get to a cooling center.
