Manzanillo, Cuba (CNN) - A cholera outbreak which killed three and infected more than 400 in Cuba, is over, according to Cuba's government, which declared an end to the outbreak on Tuesday.

Doctors on the island say they're still not sure how the disease made it to their shores in the first place, but they say recent flooding had contaminated drinking water, contributing to the rapid spread.

At the height of the outbreak, doctors struggled to treat the growing number of infected patients.

According to the Health Ministry, it's been 10 days since the last reported case of cholera, leading them to believe it's run its course.
