KSDK -- The first set of twins to be born at the new SSM St. Clare Health Center is being cared for by twin nurses... who coincidentally were among the first twins born at SSM St. Joseph.

Connie Cox of Affton and Debbie Epperson of Sunset Hills are both RNs in the Family Birthplace at St. Clare. They were born July 12, 1955, at SSM St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood - just nine months after the facility opened. The girls grew up and became nurses -- both joining the St. Joseph Hospital staff in January 1978, where they have worked for 31 years.

The 54-year-old St. Joseph Hospital closed its doors March 30, 2009, the same day its replacement hospital -- SSM St. Clare Health Center opened. The staff of St. Joseph moved to the new location.

On Tuesday, June 2, Brooke Sensmeyer of South St. Louis County gave birth to the first set of twins at St. Clare. Baby girl Jamie came first at 9:11 a.m., weighing 5 lbs., 9 oz., followed by her brother, Bradley, at 9:12 a.m., who weighed 6 lbs., 2 oz. The father is Steven Mallot, also of South St. Louis County.
